Ingrid Daubechies, who started her academic career at the VUB, is the first female to win the “William Benter Prize”.
After having obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Physics at our university, Mrs Daubechies moved on to a PhD in Theoretical Physics. The professor who now lives in the United States, has worked for the VUB from 1975 until 1987. She has been awarded with numerous prizes for her innovative research. The next one that will be added to her collection is the “William Benter Prize”. This award is given every two years and recognizes outstanding mathematical contributions that have an impact on scientific, business, finance and engineering applications.
