Organising an event, having a beer, relaxing in between classes of just enjoying your lunch. It’s all possible at the new ‘Loungebar 1050 (pronounced mille cinquante). On October 25th the Board of Directors gave the Student Council green light to rename the Convivium “Loungebar 1050”. At Brussels Health Campus, the Student council wil initiate a similar initiative soon.

Beers at €1,2

“The idea has been around for a while”, explains student in charge Otto Cartrysse. “After KultuurKafffee was torn down, there were only two places left to have a drink on our campus, i.e. ‘t Complex  and Opinio. Our purpose is to provide an accessible location for students and staff. With student friendly prices off course, like a beer for only €1,2. You could compare it to a fakbar at other universities. Bringing your own lunch will also be allowed.”

Open to everyone

“All events that will be held here, should theoretically be accessible to everyone” Otto adds. “That is not to say that you can only organise events here that are focused on a broad audience. It does mean that everyone should be able to have a beer during no matter what event. The bar will be opened by/for the renters.”

Week of the working student

“Next week, we are already booked solid”, Cartrysse exclaimes proudly. In light of “The Week of the working student” the Student Information Hub has reserved the venue. Vrije Universiteit Brussel celebrates the 40th anniversary of working students.

“We like that there finally be an alternative venue to organise events, where there is room for drinks and where everyone feels welcome”, the three Westlanders (student organisation for students of West Flanders) say in unison. “Off course the student friendly prices are an added bonus.”

“We are big fans of this initiative. We were curious and decided to come have a look”, Nathan and Kevin of student organisation Capitant exclaim. “It’s nice that it is on campus and cheaper than most of the bars around here. The space definitely has potential, we are definitely considering an event here.”
