Lina Achour has had a smile on her face these last few days. The VUB Master's student in International and European Law was recently elected as the new UN Youth Policy Representative on behalf of the Flemish Youth Council. The election took place online. Lina Achour was elected with two other young people during a final with eight candidates.

She will represent the Flemish youth at the UN for two years. This is a dream come true, because the United Nations is nothing less than a passion of hers, she says.

Not an hollow statement, when you see the experience she has already gained in this field. As a member of KULMUN she already met Ban-Ki-Moon, the former Secretary-General of the UN. KULMUN is the equivalent of VUBMUN at the KU Leuven and the 'Model United Nations' familiarise students with the workings of the United Nations institutions. In simulations she’s had to defend states in a certain body of the UN.

During her mandate, Lina will highlight themes that are close to the hearts of Flemish young people. The VUB wishes her every success!

In addition to Lina Achour, two other young people were elected as representatives on behalf of the Flemish Youth Council: Alpha Vuylsteke as representative to the EU and Reine Spiessens as UN representative for Sustainable Development.
