On Wednesday 6 July, an info session ceremony took place to announce the official selection of Belgian students. The VUB is proud to announce it included two VUB students: Kato Thibaut and David De Vocht. On top of that, VUB was awarded the Best Organiser prize of the programme in Belgium as well. In addition, Kato Thibaut was also awarded the prize for best video presenting her motivation to participate, and she was also selected as one of the two team leaders of the group of 15. 
 
The programme wants to seek out and develop local ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer and promote a greater understanding of and interest in the telecommunication sector.
 
To participate students must submit a 500-word essay showing interest in China, telecommunications and technology and outline why they should be selected to participate in this programme. It is aimed at those studying ICT, engineering and related fields, who are currently in their 3rd year bachelor.
 
The programme offers the students a week of Mandarin language and culture training at a university in Beijing, Huawei training on ICT technologies and solutions, first-hand work experience at Huawei’s Shenzhen headquarters, and an opportunity to discover Chinese culture and historical landmarks. All travel expenses are covered by Huawei.
 
The Seeds of the Future programme was first launched in Belgium in 2014 and today 7 universities from Belgium and Luxembourg participate.
