Amnesty International regards Ahmadreza Djalali as a prisoner of conscience who was convicted and detained for his refusal to use his academic links to spy on Iran.
The Iranian authorities clearly defy the rule of law and stick to the death penalty.

Forced confessions and psychological torture
In a recording of his voice published on YouTube on October 22nd, Ahmadreza Djalali says that, when he was held in isolation, he was forced to make "confessions" for a video camera by reading statements that his interrogators had composed. Dr. Djalali goes on to say that he was put under intense pressure by psychological torture and threats, also about his children, and that he had to admit that he was a "spy" for a "hostile government". In the recording he also claims that he is being persecuted for his scientific convictions. He denies all allegations.
