On May 3rd the second edition of Difference Day will take place. The Brussels Platform for Journalism  (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Erasmushogeschool Brussel), Evens Foundation and iMinds organise this day to celebrate freedom of the press and expression.

May 3rd was not chosen randomly, Difference Day shares this important date with World Press Freedom Day. Since 1993 press freedom violations are brought to the public’s attention on this day. On May 3rd people from all over the world contemplate the enormous importance of press freedom and journalism as foundation of our democratic society.

Difference Day Award

The event will start on Tuesday May 3rd at 12h30 with speakers, films, debates and exhibitions that challenge the freedom of expression and press. (see below for the full program)

The highlight of the event will be the Award Ceremony for Freedom of Expression. The Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Université Libre de Bruxelles will grant this Honorary Title for Freedom of Expression. Last year the convicted Saudi Arabian blogger Raif Badawi received the award, this year’s recipient has yet to be announced.
