Earlier this year, the Brussels Diplomatic Academy (BDA) launched its new postgraduate program International Trade and Investment. Lizzy van hoof was the first student participating in the transcontinental study track in Washington D.C. and Shanghai. From February 9th until April 8th, Lizzy studied at the Institute of World Politics (IWP) in Washington D.C.
“Before starting this postgraduate program, I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Engineering at the VUB. Referring to my business background, I thought it would be very interesting to study in the capital of the U.S., which is home to numerous political institutions affecting the whole world. The strategic international affairs focus and the scholar-practitioner qualities of the professors at IWP are important assets of the university.”
“During my six weeks at IWP, I attended three Oxford-style tutorials: International Challenges of the Public-Private Partnerships in the Cyber Domain; The Art of Diplomacy; and Forecasting and Political Risk Analysis. Additionally, I also audited Counterterrorism through Cultural Engagement and Development; International Relations, Statecraft and Integrated Strategy; and Economic Statecraft and Conflict. I had not previously studied the impact of international politics on economics and I am grateful for what IWP was able to offer me.”
